Call for applications: National Youth Council

Oct 2, 2026

The Anglican Church of Canada is looking for young people to join its new National Youth Council.

The Council gives youth and young adults a dedicated national space to gather, share their experiences and help shape the church’s present and future.

What the Council does

As an advisory body, the Council brings the voices of youth and young adults to the national life of the church. Members will:

  1. Offer perspectives and recommendations to the Council of the General Synod (CoGS) and the General Synod on all matters of church life and witness, especially those affecting young people

  2. Share information, experiences and ideas with youth and young adults from across Canada

  3. Identify new issues, opportunities and concerns for young people

  4. Support connection and collaboration among provincial, diocesan and local youth ministries

  5. Advocate for young people to take part fully in the life, governance and mission of the church

The Council will report on its work to CoGS each year.

Who can apply

Young people between 16 and 25 years old at the time of appointment can apply. Members will be chosen with the aim of reflecting young people from across Canada with many different backgrounds, cultures and experiences, including Indigenous, Black and other racialized youth.

Twelve members will be chosen through this call.

What’s involved

  1. Two online meetings and one in-person meeting each year

  2. An in-person meeting five to eight months before each General Synod

  3. A two-year term (some members of the first council will serve three years, so that not everyone finishes at the same time)

Members can apply to serve additional terms. Travel, accommodation and accessibility costs are intended to be covered, to reduce barriers to taking part.

To apply

Eligible Anglicans interested in serving on the National Youth Council are invited to complete the application form:

Applications will be received until October 16 at 5pm ET. A committee of five CoGS members will choose the first council. CoGS will then confirm the appointments. Questions about the application process can be sent to generalsecretary@national.anglican.ca.
