Dear friends in Christ,

I write with the news that Canon Bryan Finlay, Chancellor of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario has tendered his resignation from this position. We give heartfelt thanks for Canon Bryan’s faithful and dedicated service to the church and the Province. His wisdom, commitment and sound counsel have been of great value to our shared ministry, and we are deeply grateful for the leadership he has offered during his five year tenure. Canon Finlay will continue to serve as the Chancellor for the Diocese of Moosonee.

With gratitude for the past, we also look with hope to the future. I am pleased to announce the appointment of Canon Greg Tweney as the new Chancellor for the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario, effective immediately. Canon Tweney brings a broad knowledge of Canon Law and governance, along with diverse gifts of ministry and a deep faith and commitment to the life of the church. His longstanding service within the church, his insight and experience make him especially well suited to guide and support the Province in this important capacity.

Canon Tweney is a well respected Chancellor in the Anglican Church of Canada. Since 2018 Canon Tweney has served as the Chancellor for the Diocese of Niagara. At Provincial Synod 2024 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario he was installed as the first Vice-Chancellor for the Province of Ontario. Canon Tweney served as an assessor for General Synod 2023 (Calgary) and 2025 (London) for which we were most grateful. As Provincial Chancellor Canon Tweney will continue to also serve Niagara in his present role.

Canon Tweney serves as Crown Counsel in Ontario in the Ministry of the Attorney General.

Canon Tweney will be installed as Chancellor of Ontario at our online fall Provincial Council meeting, and we will find a suitable way to thank outgoing Chancellor, Canon Bryan Finlay.
