ECCLESIASTICAL PROVINCE OF
ONTARIO

Oct 9, 2026
Archbishop Anne Germond, Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Venerable John Anderson as the first Canon Pastor for the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario.
The Provincial Canon Pastor is responsible for the administration of the Provincial Misconduct Policy, including the intake and assessment of complaints made under the Policy, the supervision of investigations, and facilitating the provision of pastoral care to the parties. The Provincial Canon Pastor also oversees the recruitment, selection and training of the provincial Safe Church Resource Team, coordinates education and training initiatives, and reports to the Metropolitan and Provincial Executive Council on the operation of the Policy.
Archdeacon Anderson has served as a priest in the Diocese of Toronto since his ordination in 2010 and has extensive experience in misconduct investigations and the administration of diocesan safe church policies. He served as the Diocese of Toronto’s Canon Pastor for seven years, before returning to parish ministry. He has also served as Archdeacon for the Archdeaconry of the East in Toronto since 2023. Before his ordination in the Anglican Church of Canada, Archdeacon Anderson practiced law with a speciality in employment and labour law, human rights, civil and commercial litigation.
Archdeacon Anderson has a strong faith and deep commitment to safe church principles, including the trauma-informed approach to the investigation and adjudication of alleged misconduct. He is a faithful and prayerful servant of the church, whose experience, devotion and wisdom will enrich his ministry in this role.
We pray that God will guide and strengthen Archdeacon Anderson as he undertakes this important responsibility in service to the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario and its people.
With the appointment of Archdeacon Anderson as Provincial Canon Pastor, Archbishop Germond has proclaimed the new Provincial Misconduct Policy in force as of October 1, 2026.
